The white building is an old bridge operating house. A wonderful lady named Cathy runs a volunteer program for a group of kids known as the Bridge House Brats. The kids show up around 7:00am and leave around 2:30pm. The kids do table side breakfast and lunch from the neighboring restaurants as well as run short errands for you. It has been a wonderful experience for Sabastian and Paisley. The Bridge House Brats welcomed our kids with open arms. It will be hard to leave here but it must be done. The park feels like your own back yard.
Andrew and I were very thankful that three generations of the Moyer family came down to the lock on our first night and let us know about their experience with The Bridge House Brats. Charles Moyer was the police chief in Phoenix for 35 years. He brought photos of what Phoenix looked like before the fire of 1916. It was a wonderful history lesson and we all really enjoyed looking through the old photographs and newspaper articles.
The Bridge House Brats
Wednesday night is classic car cruising night. One family brought their family pig to the event. She was so cute and will only gain a few pounds to be at her full size.
Below are pictures of the dam and power plant that are at lock 1. The wildlife in this area is amazing. We saw Bald Eagles, Canadian Geese, Black Ducks, Mallard Ducks, Seagulls, and hawks. The water was fairly clear and we saw some small Pike, Rock Bass, and Shiners in the shallow water.
