We had a beautiful travel day last Thursday with calm seas and very gentle breezes for our 68 mile journey across Lake Ontario,The Bay of Quinte, and up the Trent River. We got underway by 7:00am and tied up at lock 4 by 6:30pm. It was a really long day. Our initial plan was to tie up at the beginning of lock 1 so we would be fresh for our locking on Friday. However, the lockmaster told us there was a really nice park at lock 4 and it was nicer than where we were. So we started up the engines and cast off for lock 4 and our two hour journey for an evening of peace and quiet. Yes, it really was worth it.
Lots of plant vegetation turned the water green.
We made it to Trenton!
Our first Trent-Severn Lock. The lock gates are smaller than the ones on the Erie Canal system. The lock gates are made out of Douglas Fir and not metal. Most of the locks are open and closed by manual labor.

narrow channels with rocks visible on the sides of the channel.
Our last lock and off to tie up for the night.
Andrew pulled over a pick nick table and started a fire in the bbq grill. The lockmaster at lock 1 was right about lock 4 park like setting. It really was worth the 2 hours of moving and locking time for a quiet night of camping out.
