Southport, NC to Mile Hammock Bay

pulling away from Fishy Fishy Cafe

The fog lifted and the sun was shining bright. The winds from Saturday died down and we had smooth seas until we met up with the inlets. We all did an excellent job of working together. It was a nice day on the water. We boated this part of the ICW 2 years ago so we knew where our problem areas were last time and Andrew and I both redrove our tough areas again. Both Sabastian and Paisley had helmsman and navigator duty. Sabastian and Paisley did an excellent job of locating and confirming other boats, Mile Markers, bouys, No wake zone areas, and bridge lifts as well as clearances. We also all shared in taking photographs for the day.

the captain teaching map reading and driving.

We get a radio call from a tanker asking to pass us. A perfect time to snap some close up pictures.

Some tankers are plain and others have lots of pictures. This one has The Little Mermaid.

2 paddle boaters out in the ICW of Wrightsville Beach heading north.

Wrightsville Beach Bridge

Inconceivable's overall clearance is just over 17 feet. We removed an old hand held GPS antenna while in Deltaville that lowered our overall clearance, once we drop our radio antenna to fit inside the covered slip at the Norview Marina in Deltaville to a little over 17 feet. We set up a laser leveler on our Furruno Radar and would take mesurements with the tides and moon cycles. The Wrightsville Beach Bridge clearance was reading at  just under 18 feet. Sabastian and I were both on the hard top just to be sure we were not going to hit. We remembered we had to wait for a bridge opening 2 years because of that old GPS antenna.

I could not resist the Giraffe. I had Sabastian snap a picture for his cousin Crista who LOVES Giraffes.

Commercial Dredging we have seen this barge on the Chesapeake Bay.

We remembered this house from 2 years ago. It is still one of the coolest houses we have seen on the ICW so far.

Sneeds Ferry this is a tricky water way. We were here during low tide and we could see the shoals. We had dolphins with us through out the weekend but they have become more playful as we move north.

We had a family Backugan tournament. The winner was Andrew and Sabastian came in second place. After a while Andrew pulled down his kayak.Sabastian noticed while we were on the hard top at the Wrightsville Beach  Bridge that there was water in the kayak. So Andrew and the kids got on their swimsuits and drained the kayak. Andrew, Paisley and Sabastian all enjoyed getting out and paddling around. It was a good lesson in steering for the kids. They did an excellent job of staying dry and having fun. There were 3 sailboats, 2 power boats, and 1 trawler. We took our chances with this bay knowing that Camp LeJeune uses this water for training exercises. We were required to have on our anchor lights and 2 boaters did not comply. One boater started blowing his air horn to get the attention of his boater friend. It was a scary moment. We thought it was the marine's needing the bay for training exercises. Boy were Andrew and I relieved to find out that we did not have to leave.

A gorgeous sunset

A beautiful way to end a Sunday night.
